Joseph Meets Benjamin and the Accusation - Quranic
Regarding this scene, Almighty Allah said: And when they entered according to their father's advice, it did not avail them in the least against (the Will of) Allah, it was but a need of Jacob's inner-self which he discharged. And verily, he was endowed with knowledge because We had taught him, but most men know not. And when they went in before Joseph, he betook his brother (Benjamin) to himself and said: "Verily! I am your brother, so grieve not for what they used to do."
So when he had furnished them forth with their provisions, he put the (golden) bowl into his brother's bag. Then a crier cried: "0 you (in) the caravan! Surely, you are thieves!" They, turning towards them, said: "What is it that you have missed?"
They said: "We have missed the (golden) bowl of the king and for him who produces it is (the reward of) a camel load; I will be bound by it."
They said: "By Allah! Indeed you know that we came not to make mischief in the land, and we are no thieves!"
They (Joseph's brothers) said: "The penalty should be that he, in whose bag it is found, should be held for the punishment (of the crime). Thus we punish the Zalimeen (wrong-doers, etc.)!"
So he (Joseph) began (the search) in their bags before the bag of his brother. Then he brought it out of his brother's bag. Thus did We plan for Joseph. He could not take his brother by the law of the king (as a slave), except that Allah willed it. (So Allah made the brothers to bind themselves with their way of "punishment, i.e. enslaving of a thief") We raise to degrees whom We please, but over all those endowed with knowledge is the All-Knowing (Allah).
They (Joseph's brothers) said: "If he steals, there was a brother of his (Joseph) who did steal before (him)." But these things did Joseph keep in himself, revealing not the secrets to them. He said (within himself): "You are in worst case, and Allah knows best the truth of what you assert!"
They said: "0 ruler of the land! Verily, he has an old father (who will grieve for him); so take one of us in his place. Indeed we think that you are one of the good-doers."
He said: "Allah forbid, that we should take anyone but him with whom we found our property. Indeed (if we did so), we shall be Zalimun (wrong-doers)."
So, when they despaired of him, they held a conference in private. The eldest among them said: "Know you not that you father did take an oath from you in Allah's name, and before this you did fail in your duty with Joseph? Therefore I will not leave this land until my father permits me, or Allah decides my case (by releasing Benjamin) and He is the Best of the judges." Surah 12: 68-80
Joseph's Plan
The brothers left enough provisions behind for Judah, who stayed at a tavern awaiting the fate of Benjamin. In the meantime, Joseph kept Benjamin in his house as his personal guest and told him how he had devised the plot to put the king's cup in his bag, in order to keep him behind, so as to protect him. He was also glad that Judah had stayed behind, as he was a good-hearted brother. Joseph secretly arranged to watch over Judah's well-being.
Joseph's plan in sending the others back was to test their sincerity, to see if they would come back for the two brothers they had left behind.
The Brothers Confront Jacob
When they arrived home, they entered upon their father, calling: "0 our father! Your son has stolen!"
He was puzzled, scarcely believing the news. He was overwhelmed with sorrow and his eyes wept tears. "Patience be with me; perhaps Allah will return all of them to me. He is Most Knowing, Most Wise." A pall of lonesomeness closed over him, yet he found consolation in patience and trusted in Allah.
The Brothers Confront Jacob - Quranic
Allah revealed to us what happened at their meeting with their father: Judah said: "Return to your father and say: '0 our father! Verily, your son (Benjamin) has stolen, and we testify not except according to what we know, and we could not know the unseen! And ask (the people of) the town where we have been, and the caravan in which we returned and indeed we are telling the truth.
He (Jacob) said: "Nay, but your ownselves have beguiled you into something. So patience is most fitting (for me). May be Allah will bring them (back) all to me. Truly He! Only He is All-Knowing, All-Wise."
And he turned away from them and said: "Alas, my grief for Joseph!" And he lost his sight because of the sorrow that he was suppressing. Surah 12: 81-84
Jacob's Request to Find Joseph
The father was deeply hurt. Only prayer could comfort him and strengthen his faith and patience. Weeping all those years for his beloved son Joseph - and now one more of his best sons had been snatched from him - Jacob almost lost his sight.
The other sons pleaded with him: "0 father, you are a noble prophet and a great messenger of Allah. Unto you descended revelation and people received guidance and faith from you. Why are you destroying yourself in this way?"
Jacob replied: "Rebuking me will not lessen my grief. Only the return of my sons will comfort me. My sons, go in search of Joseph and his brother; do not despair of Allah's mercy."
Jacob's Request to Find Joseph - Quranic
Allah, the Almighty told us: They said: "By Allah! You will never cease remembering Joseph until you become weak with old age, or until you be of the dead."
He said. "I only complain of my grief and sorrow to Allah, and I know from Allah that which you know not. 0 my sons! Go you and enquire about Joseph and his brother, and never give up hope of Allah's Mercy. Certainly no one despairs of Allah's Mercy, except the people who disbelieve." Surah 12: 85-87
Joseph Reveals Himself
The caravan set out for Egypt. The brothers - on their way to see the chief minister (Joseph) - were poor and depressed.
On reaching Egypt they collected Judah and called on Joseph, to whom they pleaded: "0 ruler of the land! A hard time has hit us and our family, and we have brought but poor capital, so pay us full measure and be charitable to us. Truly, Allah does reward the charitable." Surah 12: 88
At the end, they begged Joseph. They asked alms of him, appealing to his heart, reminding him that Allah rewards alms givers. At this moment, in the midst of their plight, Joseph spoke to them in their native tongue saying: "Do you know what you did with Joseph and his brother, when you were ignorant?"
They said: "Are you indeed Joseph?"
He said: "I am Joseph, and this is my brother (Benjamin). Allah has indeed been Gracious to us. Verily, he who fears Allah with obedience to Him (by abstaining from sins and evil deeds, and by performing righteous good deeds), and is patient, then surely, Allah makes not the reward of the good doers to be lost."
They said: "By Allah! Indeed Allah has preferred you above us, and we certainly have been sinners. " Surah 12: 89-91
The brothers began to tremble with fear, but Joseph comforted them: "No reproach on you this day, may Allah forgive you, and He is the Most Merciful of those who show mercy!" Surah 12: 92
Jacob Learns About Joseph
Joseph embraced them, and together they wept with joy. It was not possible for Joseph to leave his responsible office without proper replacement, so he advised his brothers: "Go with this shirt of mine, and cast it over the face of my father, he will become clear-sighted, and bring to me all your family. " Surah 12: 93
And so the caravan headed back for Palestine. We leave the scene in Egypt and return to Palestine and the house of Jacob. The old man is sitting in his room; tears have been flowing down his cheeks. He stands up all of a sudden, dresses and goes out to his sons' wives. Then he lifts up his face to Heaven and sniffs the air.
The wife of the eldest son remarked: "Jacob has come out of his room today." The women inquired about what was amiss. There was a hint of a smile on his face. The others asked him: "How do you feel today?"
He answered: "I can smell Joseph in the air."
The wives left him alone, saying to one another that there was no hope for the old man. "He will die of weeping over Joseph."
"Did he talk about Joseph's shirt?"
"I do not know. He said he could smell him; perhaps he has gone mad."
That day the old man wanted a cup of milk to break his fast, for he had been fasting. At night he changed his clothes. The caravan was traveling in the desert with Joseph's shirt hidden among the grain. It neared the old man's estate. He gesticulated in his room, and then he prayed a long time, lifting his hands to heaven and sniffing the air. He was weeping as the shirt was nearing him.
And when the caravan departed, their father said: "I do indeed feel the smell of Joseph, if only you think me not a dotard (a person who has weakness of mind because of old age)."
They said: "By Allah! Certainly, you are in your old error."
Then, when the bearer of the glad tidings arrived, he cast it (the shirt) over his face, and he became clear-sighted. He said: "Did I not say to you, 'I know from Allah that which you know not.
They said. "0 our father! Ask Forgiveness (from Allah) for our sins, indeed we have been sinners." Surah 12: 94-97
Jacob and Joseph (PBUT) Meet
The story began with a dream and it ends with the interpretation of the dream. Almighty Allah narrated: He said: "I will ask my Lord for forgiveness for you, verily He! Only He is the Oft-forgiving, the Most Merciful."
Then, when they entered unto Joseph, he betook his parents to himself and said: "Enter Egypt, if Allah will, in security."
And he raised his parents to the throne and they fell down before him prostrate. And he said: "0 my father! This is the interpretation of my dream of old! My Lord has made it come true! He was indeed good to me, when He took me out of the prison, and brought you (all here) out of the bedouin-life, after Satan had sown enmity between me and my brothers. Certainly, my Lord is the Most Courteous and Kind unto whom He will. Truly He! Only He is the All-Knowing, the All-Wise. " Surah 12: 98-100
Epilogue
Consider his feelings now that his dream has come true. He prays to Allah: 'My Lord! You have indeed bestowed on me of the sovereignty, and taught me the interpretation of dreams; The (only) Creator of the heavens and the earth! You are my Wali (Protector, Helper, Supporter, Guardian, etc.) in this world and in the Hereafter, cause me to die as a Muslim (the one submitting to Your Will), and join me with the righteous." Surah 12: 101
Joseph arranged an audience with the king for himself and his family, to ask the king's permission for them to settle in Egypt. Joseph was an asset to the kingdom, and the king was happy to have him remain with his household. Joseph prostrated to Allah in gratitude.
The Death of Jacob and Joseph (PBUT)
Before he died, Jacob advised his children to adhere to the teachings of Islam, the religion of all of Allah's prophets. Allah the Almighty revealed: Or were you witnesses when death approached Jacob? When he said unto his sons: "What will you worship after me?" They said: "We shall worship your Ilah (God - Allah) the Ilah (God) of your fathers. Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, One Ilah (God), and to Him we submit (in Islam)." Surah 2: 133

Today's Beautiful Hadith is about Ramadan

Narrated Ibn Abbas

Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) was the most generous of all the people, and he used to reach the peak in generosity in the month of Ramadan when Gabriel met him. Gabriel used to meet him every night of Ramadan to teach him the Qur'an. Allah's Apostle was the most generous person, even more generous than the strong uncontrollable wind (in readiness and haste to do charitable deeds).

[11].Surah Hud (PBUH)

Ayat 74. Then when the fear had gone away from (the mind of) Ibrahim (Abraham)(PBUH), and the glad tidings had reached him, he began to plead with Us (Our Messengers) for the people of Lout (Lot).
Ayat 75. Verily, Ibrahim (Abraham)(PBUH) was, without doubt, forbearing, used to invoke Allah with humility, and was repentant (to Allah all the time, again and again).
Ayat 76. "O Ibrahim (Abraham)(PBUH)! Forsake this. Indeed, the Commandment of your Lord has gone forth. Verily, there will come a torment for them which cannot be turned back."
Ayat 77. And when Our Messengers came to Lout (Lot)(PBUH), he was grieved on their account and felt himself straitened for them (lest the town people should approach them to commit sodomy with them). He said: "This is a distressful day."

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) saying, "Man follows his friend's religion, you should be careful who you take for friends".

[At-Tirmidhi Hadith # 4833 and Abu Dawud Hadith # 2378].

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Hud Ayat 57. "Verily, Ibrahim (Abraham)(PBUH) was, without doubt, forbearing, used to invoke Allah with humility, and was repentant " This Hadith also induces one to avoid the company of impious people and seek the association of the pious persons.

[11].Surah Hud (PBUH)

Ayat 69. And verily, there came Our Messengers to Ibrahim (Abraham)(PBUH) with glad tidings.They said: Salam (greetings or peace!) He answered, Salam (greetings or peace!) and he hastened to entertain them with a roasted calf.
Ayat 70. But when he saw their hands went not towards it (the meal), he felt some mistrust of them, and conceived a fear of them. They said: "Fear not, we have been sent against the people of Lout (Lot)(PBUH)."
Ayat 71. And his wife was standing (there), and she laughed (either, because the Messengers did not eat their food or for being glad for the destruction of the people of Lout (Lot). But We gave her glad tidings of Ishaque (Isaac)(PBUH), and after him, of Yaqub (Jacob)(PBUH).
Ayat 72. She said (in astonishment): "Woe unto me! Shall I bear a child while I am an old woman, and here is my husband, an old man? Verily! This is a strange thing!"
Ayat 73. They said: "Do you wonder at the Decree of Allah? The Mercy of Allah and His Blessings be on you, O the family [of Ibrahim (Abraham)(PBUH)]. Surely, He (Allah) is All-Praiseworthy, All-Glorious."

English Translation of Hadith
Hazrat Abu Masud Al-Badri (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: We were sitting in the company of Saad bin Ubadah (May Allah be pleased with him), when the Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) came to us. Bashir bin Sa`d said: "O Messenger of Allah [SAWW]! Allah has commanded us to supplicate for you, but how should we do that?'' The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) kept silent. We were much perturbed over his silence and we wished he did not asked him this question. The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, "Say: `O Allah, exalt the mention of Muhammad [SAWW] and the family of Muhammad [SAWW] as you exalted the family of Ibrahim (PBUH). And bless Muhammad [SAWW] and the family of Muhammad [SAWW] as You blessed the family of Ibrahim (PBUH). You are the Praised, the Glorified,' and the method of greeting (i.e., Salam) is as you know.''

[Muslim]. [Muslim Book 004, Chapter 15, Hadith # 0803].

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Hud Ayat 73. "The Mercy of Allah and His Blessings be on you, O the family [of Ibrahim (Abraham)(PBUH)]. In this Hadith, the Prophet [SAWW](PBUH) has showed us that the manner of offering Salam to himself and Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham)(PBUH)]. was the same as the one mentioned in this Hadith. "Al'' means the wives of the Prophet [SAWW](PBUH) and those of his relatives who were from Banu Hashim and Banu `Abdul-Muttalib and had embraced Islam. Some scholars are of the opinion that it is general and applies to all his followers.

This Hadith also teaches us that if one does not have knowledge of a religious matter, he must seek guidance from the knowledgeable scholars of Islam about it, rather than going by his opinion. Knowledgeable persons (scholars) here means persons who are well-versed in the Qur'an and Hadith and can answer questions in the light of them, and not from the sayings of others or from their own intelligence.

[11].Surah Hud (PBUH)

Ayat 64. "And O my people! This she-camel of Allah is a sign to you, leave her to feed on Allah's earth, and touch her not with evil, lest a near torment will seize you."
Ayat 65. But they killed her. So Salih (Saleh)(PBUH) said: "Enjoy yourselves in your homes for three days. This is a promise (i.e. a threat) that will not be belied."

English Translation of Hadith
Hazrat Abdullah bin Zam'ah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported that he heard the Prophet [SAWW](PBUH) giving a speech when he mentioned the she-camel (of Prophet Salih (PBUH)) and the man who had killed her. Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said: "When the most wicked man among them went forth (to kill the she-camel).' (91:12) signifies that a distinguished, wicked and most powerful chief of the people jumped up to kill the she-camel.''

[Muslim Book 040, Chapter 13, Hadith # 6837].

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Hud Ayat 65. But they killed her. So Salih (Saleh)(PBUH) said: "Enjoy yourselves in your homes for three days. This is a promise (i.e. a threat) that will not be belied." When Allah's punishment comes to pass on any nation, due to the wickedness and worshiping false idol instead of Allah and disrespect of Allah's Law's and his Messenger. No one can be saved from wrath of Allah and after their death for sure the wicked ones will be punished in the Hell. May Allah save us from all types of punishments.

Ayat 63. Salih (Saleh)(PBUH) said: "O my people! Tell me, if I have a clear proof from my Lord, and there has come to me a Mercy (Prophethood, etc.) from Him, who then can help me against Allah, if I were to disobey Him? Then you increase me not but in loss.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Tamim bin Aus Ad-Dari (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, "Ad-Deen is sincerity". We said: "For whom?'' He replied, "For Allah, His Book, His Messenger and for the leaders of the Muslims and their masses".

[Muslim Book 001, Chapter 24, Hadith # 098].

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Hud Ayat 63. "O my people! Tell me, if I have a clear proof from my Lord, and there has come to me a Mercy (Prophethood, etc.) from Him, who then can help me against Allah, if I were to disobey Him?" This Hadith stresses the importance and merits of general sincerity. Sincerity for Allah here means that one must have true faith in Him and He should be worshipped with full devotion and sincerity. Sincerity for the Qur'an means that one should confirm its truth with one's full heart and mind, recite it regularly, act upon the injunctions contained in it with meticulous care and strictly avoid its misinterpretation. Sincerity of the Prophet [SAWW](PBUH) means sincere confirmation of his Prophethood, faithful obedience of his orders and adherence to his Sunnah. The goodwill of the Muslim rulers stands here for co-operating with them in their lawful orders and obedience of their such orders which are free from any trace of sin. If they deviate from the Straight Path they should be persuaded to turn to virtue. One should not revolt against them unless they commit infidelity. The goodwill of the Muslim masses means that one should work for the betterment of their life in this world and the Hereafter. They should be provided the right guidance, induced to perform good deeds and deterred from evils.

[11].Surah Hud (PBUH)

Ayat 31. "And I do not say to you that with me are the Treasures of Allah, "Nor that I know the Ghaib (unseen); "nor do I say I am an angel, and I do not say of those whom your eyes look down upon that Allah will not bestow any good on them. Allah knows what is in their inner-selves (as regards belief, etc.). In that case, I should, indeed be one of the Zalimun (wrong-doers, oppressors, etc.)."

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, "Whosoever performs Qiyam during Lailat-ul-Qadr (Night of Decree), with Faith and being hopeful of Allah's reward, will have his former sins forgiven.''

[Al-Bukhari Volume 3, Book 32, Number 226]

Lesson : Qiyam here means what keeps one awake to one's capacity and for worship and makes one perform Nawafil, impels one to beg pardon for sins from Allah, urges one to praise Him. Specially, if a person performs `Isha prayer and Fajr prayer in congregation, he will hopefully attain all those distinctions which are mentioned in this Hadith.

Another Ramadhan slips away

Alas!..it is here...Its the time for parting.

The countdown that marked the arrival of Ramadaan, the excitement of the coming month of boundless mercy, now turns to wistfulness and grief.

All too soon, the few fleeting days of Ramadaan will pass away.
The question is..did we make an effort to gather the uncountable blessings from Allah that this month brings in?
The question is.. did we do enough?

Allah blessed us with the month of Ramadaan, and bestowed His favor upon us with the fasting of its day and the praying of its night.

I ask Allah that He accepts from us our fasting, our standing in prayer, our recitation of theQuraan and that He makes us from the people who are saved from Hell Fire.

Soon, as we bid farewell to this blessed month..this beloved, noble guest, it is a good time to remind ourselves...and to take a moment to reflect upon our actions during Ramadaan, our motives and perhaps even chart a course for the continuity of our good deeds. We should ask ourselves a few questions for which we need to find some honest answers.

An answer, it is said, is only as good as the question that precedes it. For it is only when we frame a query searching enough, searing enough, that we can hope to find a reply that is comprehensive and just. It is these answers that may have a chance to awaken us from our absent-mindedness, our heedlessness and help us remain steadfast and virtuous.

These questions are in their utmost simplicity:

Who did you fast for??
Why did you fast??
What is to be done after Ramadaan?
Yet, the answers are only the bare truth. Why, nothing else could be clearer! I fasted for Allah alone, to worship Him, seeking the rewards from Him alone.

Yes, these answers are correct and clear. But, what about those of us who fasted the month of Ramadaan as a tradition and not as an act of worship?

Do we not know of someone who got used to fasting this month because they inherited it from their parents and their societies and they do not want to go against their traditions?

Do we see someone fasting because everyone around them, their family, peers and colleagues are fasting, and they want to belong?

Perhaps a part of us also does the same?

Are we among those people who abstain from all sorts of permissible food and drink during the long hours of the day, only to fall upon the food and drink at iftaar, unmindful of what is unlawful during the nights and days of the rest of the year? This is because of the feeble self-control over overwhelming desires of the nafs (soul), that is not bothered to be reined-in, except for mighty efforts during the days of Ramadaan.

Have we not observed someone we know, who fasts meticulously as if fasting is a habit that has been inherited, and yet does not pray? Have not we, at some time or the other, fasted as if a bag was tied to a camel's mouth to prevent it from eating until dusk, because we have not prayed nor observed the limits set by Allaah, achieving nothing out of it except hunger or thirst?

Certainly, the obligation of fasting is one of the pillars of Islam, but the greatest pillar of Islam is the Salah. The five daily prayers are greater than fasting. Some people regularly fast the month of Ramadaan, but do not regularly pray. Some do not pray at all.

The One who prescribed fasting is the same One who prescribed Salah. The One who said, "O you who believe, Fasting is prescribed for you.." [Al Baqara 2:183] is the same One who said, "..Perform salah. Verily, the prayer is enjoined on the believers at fixed time." [Nisa 4:103]

Does Allah deserve to be worshiped during the month of Ramadaan by fasting, then He does not deserve to be worshiped in the five daily prayers?

Similarly, we see people staying away from lying, backbiting and cheating during Ramadaan, only to go right back to their evil ways, the very evening the moon is sighted for Shawwal!

Will we do the same??

Will we go right back to the way were before Ramadaan??

Or have we changed for the better??

Will we abandon the Quran, the Word of ar-Rahman, that we recited so whole heartedly during Ramadaan and replace it with music, the words of as-Shaytaan? ??

Will we forget all that we learnt from this blessed month in the blink of an eye?

Will we run straight back into the haraam that we worked so hard to stay away from during Ramadaan??

We all prayed Tahajjud / Fajr Salat but sadly now we will pray only when we get time.

We scarificed our daily evening routine for 1 hour of Esha and Taraweeh Salat.. and now if we are to ask to devote 1 hour for namaz , we would think twice.

Does Allah deserve from us to be worshiped only in the month of Ramadaan, but not in the rest of the year?

Its far easy to keep fasting in Ramadaan (as everyone is fasting) but now because we have got the habbit lets first start continue fasting for next 6 days of Shawaal followed by sunnat fasting of mondays and thrusday and 13,14,15 of every month.

Has this month of fasting become more of a tradition for us than anything else..going from one Khatam to another, trying to catch the blessing of Khatmul-Quran, yet when it comes to our practical every day lives, this very Quran lies dusty upon our shelves, having no impact on our lives, having no change in our attitude and with no effect on our submission to Allaah.

Did we really learn nothing from this blessed month?

Or did we???

Rather, this month should be a starting point for further piety because from the signs of Allah's acceptance of our fasting is that He helps us to become steadfast in the Deen after Ramadaan.

Today, even with the imminent departing of Ramadaan, let us be able to say, "..Verily, my Salah, my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of the Worlds. He has no partner. And of this I have been commanded, and I am the first of the Muslims." [Al Anaam 6:162-163]

It is a farewell, but also a renewal, a reaffirmation, a positive change, and with the Will of Allah, also our labor's end and its just recompense.

Alahumma infa`ni bima `allamtani
wa `allamni ma yanfa`uni!

OH ALLAH! Make useful for me what You taught me

English Translation of Al-Quran

[97]. Surah Al-Qadr [The Night of Decree]

Ayat 1. Verily! We have sent it (this Qur'an) down in the night of Al-Qadr (Decree)
Ayat 2. And what will make you know what the night of Al-Qadr (Decree) is?
Ayat 3. The night of Al-Qadr (Decree) is better than a thousand months (i.e. worshipping Allah in that night is better than worshipping Him a thousand months, i.e. 83 years and 4 months).
Ayat 4. Therein descend the angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] by Allah's Permission with all Decrees,
Ayat 5. Peace! (All that night, there is Peace and Goodness from Allah to His believing slaves) until the appearance of dawn.

The Superiority of Lailat-ul-Qadr (the Night of Decree)

Allah, the Exalted, says: in Surah Al-Qadr "The Night of Al-Qadr (Decree) is better than a thousand months also in Surah Ad-Dukhan (44: Ayat 3-6) "We sent it (this Qur'an) down on a blessed night [(i.e., the Night of Al-Qadr, Surah No:97) in the month of Ramadan, the 9th month of the Islamic calendar].

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported: I asked: "O Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH)! If I realize Lailat-ul-Qadr (Night of Decree), what should I supplicate in it?'' He [SAWW](PBUH) replied, "You should supplicate: Allahumma innaka `afuwwun, tuhibbul-`afwa, fa`fu `anni (O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness; so forgive me).''

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Qadr Ayat 3. "The night of Al-Qadr (Decree) is better than a thousand months." We learn from this Hadith that Although no specific sign of Lailat-ul-Qadr has been mentioned in the Ahadith, some eminent scholars have stated, on the basis of their own experiences and observation, that since angels descend on this night, one feels a peculiar tranquillity and peace of mind and one is overwhelmed with a unique tenderness of heart. The night is neither very hot nor very cold but a temperate one. Similarly, the sun that rises on the next day is also not very hot etc. etc. Allah knows the truth of the matter despite all that has been said in this regard. In any case, on this auspicious night every Muslim should earnestly pray to Allah for the forgiveness of his sins with reference to His Attribute of Forgiveness.

Rulings on Zakaat Al Fitr

To whom should zakaat al fitr be paid?

Zakaat al-fitr should be given to poor Muslims even if they are sinners so long as their sin is not something that puts them beyond the pale of Islam. What is meant by poor is those who appear to be poor, even if they are in fact rich. The one who is paying the zakaah should seek out good poor people as much as possible. If he finds out later that the one who took it was actually rich, that does not affect the one who gave it, rather he has discharged his duty, praise be to Allaah.

Can we zakaat al-fitr donate it to charitable funds for building a mosque,

Zakaat al-fitr should be given to the poor Muslims in the land or city where it is given, because of the report narrated by Abu Dawood from Ibn Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him), who said: “The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) enjoined zakaat al-fitr, to be paid in Ramadaan to feed the poor…” It is permissible to send it to the poor of another land whose people are in greater need. It is NOT permissible to spend it on building a mosque or other charitable projects.

The rate of zakaat al-fitr
Is it permissible to give zakaat al-fitr in cash?

It was narrated that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) enjoined zakaat al-fitr upon the Muslims at a rate of one saa of dates or one saa of barley, and he commanded that it should be given before the people went out to pray – i.e., the Eid prayers. In al-Saheehayn it is narrated that Abu Saeed al-Khudri (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “At the time of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) we used to give it at a rate of one saa of food, or one saa of dates, or one saa of barley, or one saa of cheese, or one saa of raisins…” A number of scholars interpreted the word taaam (food) in this hadeeth as referring to wheat, and others explained it as referring to the staple food of the local people, no matter what it is, whether it is wheat, corn or something else. This is the correct view, because the zakaah is a kind of help given by the rich to the poor, and the Muslim should not offer help with anything other than the staple food of his country.

What must be given is a saa of all kinds of food, which is four times the amount scooped up with two hands, which is approximately three kilograms. If the Muslim gives a saa of rice or some other staple food of his country, that is fine.

It first becomes due on the night of the twenty-eighth of Ramadaan, because the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to give it one or two days before Eid, and the month lasts twenty-nine or thirty days.

The latest it may be given is at the Eid prayer, but it is not permissible to delay it until after the prayer, because of the report narrated by Ibn Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever gives it before the prayer, it is accepted zakaah, and whoever gives it after the prayer, it is a kind of charity.” (Narrated by Abu Dawood).

It is not permissible to pay the value in money, according to the majority of scholars, and the evidence for this view is more sound. Rather it should be given in the form of food, as was done by the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), his companions (may Allaah be pleased with them) and the majority of the ummah. We ask Allaah to help us and all the Muslims to understand His religion and adhere steadfastly to it. May Allaah bless our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions.

Paying zakaat al-fitr on behalf of the dead

Zakaat al-fitr is obligatory for all Muslims, males and females, old and young, as stated by the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).

It is only required from the living who are present at the time when it becomes due.

The time when zakaat al-fitr becomes due is when the sun sets on the last day of Ramadaan, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) called it sadaqat al-fitr, and fitr or breaking the fast of Ramadaan comes when the sun sets on the night of Eid (i.e., the night before Eid). It is a purification for the fasting person from any idle or obscene speech, and the fast ends when the sun sets.

If a person dies before the time it become obligatory, he does not have to pay this zakaah. If a person lives until the time when it becomes obligatory, then dies before paying it, then it should be paid on his behalf from his wealth because it is still a duty that he owes and becomes a debt that must be paid on his behalf.

Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

If a person dies before the sun sets on the night before Eid, he does not have to pay zakaat al-fitr, because he died before it became obligatory.

In conclusion: The deceased person is responsible for this if he died after the time when it became obligatory, which is sunset on the night before Eid. In that case it must be paid on his behalf.

If he died before the time when it became obligatory – then this zakaah is not obligatory.

If someone gives charity such as food, money, etc dead person behalf, then it is charity given on his behalf and is not zakaat al-fitr.

It is proven in more than one hadeeth from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) that charity given on behalf of the dead benefits them and the reward reaches them.

The difference between zakaah on wealth and zakaat al-fitr

Yes, the zakaah that is one of the five pillars of Islam is something other than the zakaah that must be paid at the end of Ramadaan (zakaat al-fitr).

The former is zakaah on wealth which is only obligatory on certain kinds of wealth, viz.:

1- Anaam livestock (camels, cattle and sheep)

2- Gold and silver and, nowadays, paper currency

3- Trade goods

4- What is produced by the earth, which includes two things:

a. Crops and fruits. The scholars are unanimously agreed that it is obligatory to pay zakaah on four kinds: wheat, barley, dates and raisins; they differed with regard to other kinds.

b. Rikaaz (buried treasure), i.e., wealth of the kuffaar buried in the ground that is found by a Muslim.

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) narrated in Majmoo al-Fataawa (25/10) that Ibn al-Mundhir (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

The scholars are unanimously agreed that zakaah is obligatory on nine things: camels, cattle, sheep, gold, silver, wheat, barley, dates and raisins, if they reach the nisaab (minimum threshold) for each type at which zakaah becomes due. They differed with regard to other types of wealth.

Zakaah for each of these kinds of wealth is obligatory subject to certain conditions, and a specific amount of the wealth must be given as defined by shareeah.

This zakaah (zakaah on wealth) is one of the five pillars of Islam. Whoever denies it is a kaafir and whoever withholds it is a rebellious evildoer; the Muslim ruler must take it from him by force. If he persists in withholding it and is protected by his tribe then he must be fought until he pays it.

Al-Bukhaari (8) and Muslim (12) narrated that Abd-Allaah ibn Umar said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say: “Islam is built on five (pillars): bearing witness that there is no God except Allaah, establishing regular prayer, paying zakaah, fasting Ramadaan and going on Pilgrimage to the House.”

Al-Bukhaari (25) and Muslim (22) narrated from Ibn Umar that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “I have been enjoined to fight the people until they bear witness that there is no god except Allaah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah, and they establish regular prayer and pay zakaah. If they do that, then they have protected their blood and wealth from me except in cases where Islamic laws apply, and their reckoning will be with Allaah.

The Sahaabah (may Allaah be pleased with them) were unanimously agreed on fighting those who withheld zakaah. Al-Bukhaari (1400) and Muslim (20) narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said:

“When the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) passed away, and Abu Bakr (may Allaah be pleased with him) became caliph, and some of the Arabs disbelieved and apostatized, Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: How could you fight the people, when the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, “I have been enjoined to fight the people until they bear witness that there is no god except Allaah. Whoever says that has protected his blood and wealth from me except in cases where Islamic laws apply, and their reckoning will be with Allaah”?

Then Abu Bakr said: By Allaah, I will fight those who separate prayer and zakaah, for zakaah is what is due on wealth. By Allaah, if they withhold from me a small sheep that they used to give to the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), I will fight them for withholding it.

Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: ‘By Allaah, when I realized that Abu Bakr (may Allaah be pleased with him) was confident about this idea, then I knew that this was the truth.’”

With regard to the zakaah that is obligatory at the end of Ramadaan, this is Zakaat al-Fitr. The scholars are unanimously agreed that it is obligatory, except those who held odd views.

It is less important than the zakaah of wealth with regard to obligation and status. Zakaat al-Fitr is NOT one of the pillars of Islam, and the one who denies it is not a kaafir.

Zakaat al-Fitr was mentioned in many ahaadeeth, such as the following:

Al-Bukhaari (1503) and Muslim (984) narrated that Ibn Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) enjoined zakaat al-fitr, a saa of dates, or a saa of barley, for every Muslim, slave or free, male or female, young or old, and he enjoined that it be given before the people go out to the prayer.

Abu Dawood (1609) narrated that Ibn Abbaas said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) enjoined zakaat al-fitr as a purification for those who fasted from idle or obscene talk, and so as to feed the poor. Whoever gives it before the prayer, it is accepted zakaah and whoever gives it after the prayer, it is ordinary charity. Classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.

Ruling on one who does not pay zakaat al-fitr

although he is able to

The one who does not pay zakaat al-fitr has to repent to Allaah and seek His forgiveness, because he is sinning by withholding it. He also has to pay it to those who are entitled to it, but after Eid prayer it is simply regarded as ordinary charity.

Is zakaat al-fitr due from one who did not fast in Ramadaan
because of a valid excuse like travelling or sick ?

The majority of scholars, including the four imams and others, are of the view that zakaat al-fitr is due from the Muslim even if he did not fast Ramadaan. No one else differed from that except Saeed ibn al-Musayyab and al-Hasan al-Basri, who said that zakaat al-fitr is due only from those who fasted.

But the correct view is that of the majority, because of the following evidence:

1 –The general meaning of the hadeeth which is the basis for zakaat al-fitr being obligatory:

It was narrated that Ibn Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) enjoined zakaat al-fitr, a saa of dates or a saa of barley, upon everyone, slave or free, male or female, young or old, and he enjoined that it be paid before the people went out to pray. Narrated by al-Bukhaari (1503) and Muslim (984).

The word “young” includes small children who cannot fast.

2 – When charity and zakaah are enjoined, it is usually to help the poor and needy, and is aimed at achieving some degree of social security, and the most obvious case is zakaat al-fitr, which is enjoined upon young and old, free and slave, male and female, and the Lawgiver did not stipulate any minimum threshold (nisaab) or the passage of one year for it to be obligatory. Hence the fact that it is obligatory for those who did not fast in Ramadaan, with or without an excuse, is implied in the purpose for which this zakaah is prescribed.

3 – With regard to the argument of those who quoted as evidence the words of Ibn Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) enjoined zakaat al-fitr as a purification for the fasting person from idle talk and obscene speech, and to feed the poor. Narrated by Abu Dawood (1609)

They said: The words “as a purification for the fasting person” means that zakaat al-fitr is obligatory only for those who fasted. Al-Haafiz Ibn Hajar responded to that in al-Fath (3/369) where he said:

My response is that mentioning purification refers to the usual case (as most people fast), just as it is also required of those who did not commit sin, such as one who is very righteous or one who became Muslim a moment before the sun set. End quote.

What this means is that in most cases zakaat al-fitr is prescribed because it is a purification for the one who fasted, but attaining this purification is not a condition of it being obligatory. A similar case is the zakaah of one’s wealth, which has also been prescribed in order to purify the soul:

“Take Sadaqah (alms) from their wealth in order to purify them and sanctify them with it, and invoke Allaah for them. Verily, your invocations are a source of security for them; and Allaah is All-Hearer, All-Knower”

[al-Tawbah 9:103]

Despite that zakaah is obligatory in the case of wealth belonging to a small child who does not need to be purified, because no bad deeds are recorded for him.

Shaykh Ibn Jibreen gave another response, and said:

It is paid on behalf of children and those who are not accountable, and those who did not fast because of an excuse such as sickness or travel. So the purification is for the guardians of those who are not accountable, and it is a purification for the one who did not fast because of an excuse, on the assumption that he will fast once the excuse is no longer in effect, so it is purification in advance, before he fasts or completes his fast. End quote.

Where to pay zakaat al-fitr

I am a young man living in Kuwait, but I have taken my daughter to America for medical treatment and I fasted Ramadaan in America. Do I have to pay zakaat al-fitr in America or can I delegate my family in Kuwait to pay it on my behalf? What is the ruling on paying zakaat al-fitr in cash? Please note that in America they pay it in cash instead of giving staple food.

The scholars (may Allaah be pleased with them) stated that zakaat al-fitr is connected to numbers of people, not money, and it is to be paid in the place where a person is on the night before Eid.

Ibn Qudaamah said in al-Mughni (4/134):

As for zakaat al-fitr, it is to be paid in the land where the person from whom it is due is present, whether his wealth is there or not. End quote.

As for paying zakaat al-fitr in cash, please note that it must be given in the form of food, and that paying it in cash is NOT acceptable.

So you must try to give it in the form of food. If the poor person refuses the food and asks for cash, then there is nothing wrong with your giving it as cash in that case, because of need or necessity.

Should zakaat al-fitr be given to one person, or distributed among several?

It is permissible to give zakaat al-fitr on behalf of one person to one person, and it is also permissible to distribute it among a number of people.

Is there a duaa to be said when paying zakaat al-fitr?

We do not know of any specific duaa to be said when paying it.

Ruling on zakaat al-fitr and how much is to be paid

Sadaqat al-fitr is obligatory upon every Muslim who is self-supporting, if he has one saa or more than he needs of food for himself and his family on the day and night of Eid.

The basis for that is the report narrated from Ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) who said: “The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) enjoined zakaat al-fitr, a saa of dates, or a saa of barley, upon all the Muslims, slave and free, male and female, young and old, and he commanded that it be paid before the people went out to pray.” Agreed upon; this version was narrated by al-Bukhaari.

And Abu Saeed al-Khudri narrated: “We used to pay zakaat al-fitr when the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was alive, a saa’ of food or a saa’ of dates or a saa’ of barley or a saa’ of raisins or a saa’ of dried yoghurt.” Agreed upon.

It is acceptable to give a saa of the local staple food such as rice etc.

What is meant by a saa’ here is the saa of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), which is four times the amount that may be held in the two hands of a man of average build. If a person does not pay zakaat al-fitr, he is sinning, and he has to make it up.

Our Lord! Thou art He that will gather mankind Together against a day about which there is no doubt; for Allah never fails in His promise.

Our Lord! We have indeed believed: forgive us, then, our sins, and save us from the agony of the Fire

رَبَّنَا إِنَّكَ مَن تُدْخِلِ النَّارَ فَقَدْ أَخْزَيْتَهُ وَمَا لِلظَّالِمِينَ مِنْ أَنصَارٍ
[آل عمران :192]
15.

Our Lord! We have heard the call of one calling (Us) to Faith, 'Believe ye in the Lord,' and we have believed.
[3:193]

Rabbana innana sami'na munadiyany-yunadi lil-imani an aminu bi Rabbikum fa'aamanna

رَّبَّنَا إِنَّنَا سَمِعْنَا مُنَادِيًا يُنَادِي لِلإِيمَانِ أَنْ آمِنُواْ بِرَبِّكُمْ فَآمَنَّا
[آل عمران :193]

Our Lord! Forgive us our sins, blot out from us our iniquities, and take to Thyself our souls in the company of the righteous
[3:193]

Rabbana faghfir lana dhunoobana wa kaffir 'ana sayyi'aatina wa tawaffana ma'al Abrar

رَبَّنَا فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَكَفِّرْ عَنَّا سَيِّئَاتِنَا وَتَوَفَّنَا مَعَ الأبْرَارِ
[آل عمران :193]
17.

Our Lord! Grant us what Thou didst promise unto us through Thine apostles, and save us from shame on the Day of Judgment: For Thou never breakest Thy promise
[3:194]

Rabbana wa 'atina ma wa'adtana 'ala rusulika wa la tukhzina yawmal-Qiyamah innaka la tukhliful mi'aad

رَبَّنَا وَآتِنَا مَا وَعَدتَّنَا عَلَى رُسُلِكَ وَلاَ تُخْزِنَا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ إِنَّكَ لاَ تُخْلِفُ الْمِيعَاد
[آل عمران :194]

Our Lord! We believe; write us down among the witnesses.
[5:83]

Rabbana aamana faktubna ma' ash-shahideen

رَبَّنَا آمَنَّا فَاكْتُبْنَا مَعَ الشَّاهِدِينَ

O Allah our Lord! Send us from heaven a table set (with viands), that there may be for us - for the first and the last of us - a solemn festival and a sign from thee; and provide for our sustenance, for thou art the best Sustainer (of our needs)
[5:114]

Rabbana anzil 'alayna ma'idatam minas-Samai tuknu lana 'idal li-awwa-lina wa aakhirna wa ayatam-minka war-zuqna wa anta Khayrul-Raziqeen

رَبَّنَا أَنزِلْ عَلَيْنَا مَآئِدَةً مِّنَ السَّمَاء تَكُونُ لَنَا عِيداً لِّأَوَّلِنَا وَآخِرِنَا وَآيَةً مِّنكَ وَارْزُقْنَا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ الرَّازِقِينَ
[المائدة :114]
20.

Our Lord! We have wronged our own souls: If thou forgive us not and bestow not upon us Thy Mercy, we shall certainly be lost.
[7:23]

Rabbana zalamna anfusina wa il lam taghfir lana wa tarhamna lana kuna minal-khasireen

رَبَّنَا ظَلَمْنَا أَنفُسَنَا وَإِن لَّمْ تَغْفِرْ لَنَا وَتَرْحَمْنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ

Our Lord! Send us not to the company of the wrong-doers
[7:47]

Rabbana la taj'alna ma'al qawwmi-dhalimeen

رَبَّنَا لاَ تَجْعَلْنَا مَعَ الْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ

Our Lord! Decide Thou between us and our people in truth, for Thou art the best to decide.

Rabbana afrigh bayana wa bayna qawmina bil haqqi wa anta Khayrul Fatiheen

رَبَّنَا افْتَحْ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ قَوْمِنَا بِالْحَقِّ وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ الْفَاتِحِينَ

Our Lord! Pour out on us patience and constancy, and take our souls unto thee as Muslims (who bow to thy will)!

Rabbana afrigh 'alayna sabraw wa tawaffana Muslimeen

رَبَّنَا أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا وَتَوَفَّنَا مُسْلِمِينَ

Our Lord! Make us not a trial for those who practise oppression; And deliver us by Thy Mercy from those who reject (Thee)
[10:85-86]

Rabbana la taj'alna firnatal lil-qawmidh-Dhalimeen wa najjina bi-Rahmatika minal qawmil kafireen

رَبَّنَا لاَ تَجْعَلْنَا فِتْنَةً لِّلْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ ; وَنَجِّنَا بِرَحْمَتِكَ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ
[يونس :85-86]
25.

O our Lord! Truly Thou dost know what we conceal and what we reveal: for nothing whatever is hidden from Allah, whether on earth or in heaven
[14:38]

Rabbana innaka ta'iamu ma nukhfi wa ma nu'lin wa ma yakhfa 'alal-lahi min shay'in fil-ardi wa la fis-Sama'

رَبَّنَا إِنَّكَ تَعْلَمُ مَا نُخْفِي وَمَا نُعْلِنُ وَمَا يَخْفَى عَلَى اللّهِ مِن شَيْءٍ فَي الأَرْضِ وَلاَ فِي السَّمَاء

O our Lord! And accept my Prayer.

رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلْ دُعَاء

O our Lord! Cover (us) with Thy Forgiveness - me, my parents, and (all) Believers, on the Day that the Reckoning will be established!

Our Lord! Bestow on us Mercy from Thyself, and dispose of our affair for us in the right way!

Our Lord! We fear lest he hasten with insolence against us, or lest he transgress all bounds

رَبَّنَا إِنَّنَا نَخَافُ أَن يَفْرُطَ عَلَيْنَا أَوْ أَن يَطْغَى

Our Lord! We believe; then do Thou forgive us, and have mercy upon us: For Thou art the Best of those who show mercy

Rabbana amanna faghfir lana warhamna wa anta khayrur Rahimiin

رَبَّنَا آمَنَّا فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ الرَّاحِمِينَ

Our Lord! Avert from us the Wrath of Hell, for its Wrath is indeed an affliction grievous,- Evil indeed is it as an abode, and as a place to rest in.
[25: 65-66]

Rabbanas-rif 'anna 'adhaba jahannama inna 'adhabaha kana gharama innaha sa'at musta-qarranw wa muqama

رَبَّنَا اصْرِفْ عَنَّا عَذَابَ جَهَنَّمَ إِنَّ عَذَابَهَا كَانَ غَرَامًا إِنَّهَا سَاءتْ مُسْتَقَرًّا وَمُقَامًا
[الفرقان :65-66]
32.

O my Lord! Grant unto us wives and offspring who will be the comfort of our eyes, and give us (the grace) to lead the righteous
[25:74]

Rabbana Hablana min azwaajina wadhurriy-yatina, qurrata 'ayioni wa-jalna lil-muttaqeena Imaama

رَبَّنَا هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ أَزْوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّاتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍ وَاجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُتَّقِينَ إِمَامًا

Our Lord is indeed Oft-Forgiving Ready to appreciate (service)

Our Lord! Thy Reach is over all things, in Mercy and Knowledge. Forgive, then, those who turn in Repentance, and follow Thy Path; and preserve them from the Penalty of the Blazing Fire!

Rabbana wasi'ta kulla sha'ir Rahmatanw wa 'ilman faghfir lilladhina tabu wattaba'u sabilaka waqihim 'adhabal-Jahiim

آمَنُوا رَبَّنَا وَسِعْتَ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ رَّحْمَةً وَعِلْمًا فَاغْفِرْ لِلَّذِينَ تَابُوا وَاتَّبَعُوا سَبِيلَكَ وَقِهِمْ عَذَابَ الْجَحِيمِ
[غافر :7]
35.

And grant, our Lord! that they enter the Gardens of Eternity, which Thou hast promised to them, and to the righteous among their fathers, their wives, and their posterity! For Thou art (He), the Exalted in Might, Full of Wisdom. And preserve them from (all) ills; and any whom Thou dost preserve from ills that Day,- on them wilt Thou have bestowed Mercy indeed: and that will be truly (for them) the highest Achievement.
[40:8-9]

Rabbana wa adhkhilum Jannati 'adninil-lati wa'attahum wa man salaha min aba'ihim wa azajihim wa dhuriyyatihim innaka antal 'Azizul-Hakim, waqihimus sayyi'at wa man taqis-sayyi'ati yawma'idhin faqad rahimatahu wa dhalika huwal fawzul-'Adheem

رَبَّنَا وَأَدْخِلْهُمْ جَنَّاتِ عَدْنٍ الَّتِي وَعَدتَّهُم وَمَن صَلَحَ مِنْ آبَائِهِمْ وَأَزْوَاجِهِمْ وَذُرِّيَّاتِهِمْ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ وَقِهِمُ السَّيِّئَاتِ وَمَن تَقِ السَّيِّئَاتِ يَوْمَئِذٍ فَقَدْ رَحِمْتَهُ وَذَلِكَ هُوَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِيمُ
[غافر :8-9]

Our Lord! Forgive us, and our brethren who came before us into the Faith, and leave not, in our hearts, rancour (or sense of injury) against those who have believed.

Rabbana-ghfir lana wa li 'ikhwani nalladhina sabaquna bil imani wa la taj'al fi qulubina ghillal-lilladhina amanu

Our Lord! Thou art indeed Full of Kindness, Most Merciful.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Ibn `Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) said: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, "If Allah afflicts punishment upon a nation, it befalls the whole population indiscriminately and then they will be resurrected and judged according to their deeds.''

[Al-Bukhari Volume 9, Book 88, Number 224].

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Yunus Ayat 48. ""When will be this promise (the torment or the Day of Resurrection)" When Allah's punishment comes to pass, it does not distinguish between the upright and the wicked. However, the pious people will be saved from punishment after their death while the wicked ones will be punished in the Hell. May Allah save us from all types of punishments.

Figs: "It is a fruit from paradise and a cure for piles".

"By the Fig and the Olive...”

By the fig and by the olive, by the mount of Sinai and by this city of peace.” [Quran -Surah at-Teen; 95:1,2,3]

Figs are thought to be originally from small Asia and are one of the first fruits cultivated ever.
It is said that humans could live on Figs alone as a source of food -- such is the goodness and nutrition in the fruit!

Figs are a rich source of calcium, iron, magnesium, Vitamin B6, and potassium. Figs are low in fat and high in fibre. They provide more fiber than any other common fruit or vegetable.
Figs have many health benefits. Fresh and dry figs are high in pectin, a soluble fiber that can reduce blood cholesterol. The fruit is also believed to have a laxative effect and can aid those who suffer from chronic constipation.

Listed below are some common problems and illnesses and how they can be avoided by the use of figs:

Insomnia
Figs contain a nutrient called tryptophan. This promotes good sleep and helps the brain use glucose properly, encouraging and stimulating good circulation.

Memory loss
Figs contain a lot of natural sugar - up to 60%. Sugar stimulate the brain so we can think faster and recall information more quickly. So that you can think more clear and faster. Figs are the ultimate brain fuel!

Fatigue
Fresh Figs contain up to 80% of water, as well as being one of the fruits with the highest levels of natural sugars. So they are a brilliant source of energy and stimulant for the brain. Making you more alert, responsive, fresh, as well as de-toxing the self.

Skin
Due to the Fig's high water content, they are ideal for improving the skin. The skin requires a good level of water. This will clear the skin, act as a cleanser, improve acne, oil, and general well-being.

Constipation

Calcium
Studies show that 80% of Americans don't consume adequate amounts of calcium daily. (NB: sorry, I couldnt find the statistics for calcium consumption for those of us that live in the UK ! :P )
The majority of the calcium consumed by those in the US comes from dairy products. However, Figs are another source where much calcium could be obtained. This is also beneficial for those who are lactose intolerant (or even those who chose to be Vegans!).

Figs contain Iron which enriches the blood, and helps to produce it. Thus, they are ideal for women, girls and those suffering from Anemia (lack of Iron).

Digestion
Five figs provide more than 20 percent of the daily recommended allowance of fibre. Hence, they are excellent in aiding digestion and improving the condition of the stomach and bowels.

Hemorrhoids (piles).

Prophet Muhammad is recorded to have said to make use of Figs in order to curb Hemorrhoids.

Bones
Figs, with their high level of calcium are ideal for young growing children and for the development of bones. They are also invaluable for those suffering from Osteoporosis and brittle bones.

Weight control
Three figs, fresh or dried, contain about five grams of fibre. The soluble fibre contained in Figs can help people cut down on snacking because it causes nutrients to be absorbed more slowly, making people feel more satisfied after a meal. However, it should be remembered that Figs are high in calories.

فابتسمت وأجابته .. أنت تفعل مثل هذا المجنون يا ولدي ...

فقال لها متعجبا .. أنا يا امي !!!

فقالت له .. نعم .. برؤيتك لما يفتح شهيتك للنساء ...

عندها صمت وأطرق برأسه خجلا ...

فقالت له .. يابني أنت مجنونا أكثر منه .. فهو فتح شهيته لشئ ليس معه فقط ما أنت ففتحت شهيتك لشيء محرم !! .. ونسيت قوله تعالى : (قل للمؤمنين يغضوا من أبصارهم .. ويحفظوا فروجهم .ذلك ازكى لهم) ...

عندها دمعت عينا إبنها بحزن .. وقال لها حقا يا أمي .. أنا اخطأت .. وإن عاودت لمثل ذلك .. فأنا مجنون أكثر منه ..

بل وآثم أيضا .. أعدك بأني لن أكررها .

LIGHTING EYES ON FIRE

A mother woke up from a nightmare in which she saw herself lighting a match and burning her eyes. She quickly got up and said her adhkaar (prayers), she then went to check on her teenage son and found him in his room watching a dirty movie. Shocked and not knowing what to do as her worst fears came true, she decided not to confront him since he did not notice her and went back to bed.
In the morning as she was preparing breakfast she asked her son, "What would one do if he was hungry and had nothing to eat?"
Her son replied, "Go to the restaurant and fulfill his desire."
She asked, "And what if he did not have any money to do so?"
He paused before answering (as if he understood).
She then added, "And what is your opinion of such a person who is hungry with no money for food, and furthermore, takes medicine to increase his appetite?"
Her son answered, "Such a person is indeed crazy with no sense."
So she said, "Yes my son, and you are doing as this senseless person is."
He answered, taken aback, "Me? Oh my mother?"
The mother said: "Yes, by opening your appetite for women (watching lewd movies), but you are worse than this senseless person, for he is increasing his appetite for what he does not have, as for you. you are increasing your appetite for what is haram (unlawful) and not allowed for you to have!"
At this her son threw down his head in shame.
She reminded him of the verse: “Tell the believing men to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts…”

[al-Noor 24:30]

He said: "Yes, you are right, I am worse than such a person and I was wrong in my actions and if I return to such I will be worse than any senseless person. I promise you I will never return to such acts."

Valentines Day : How Halaal is it ?

Okay...so its that time of the year again. When they say that "love" is in the air. The time when you see RED everywhere.....red hearts, red candy, red flowers and red roses.

And when you walk into the stores you see chocolates, and jewelry and gifts for "that someone special you know".

This is the time when the old and the young, and even kids, as young as those in elementary school, exchange valentine cards and love notes amongst themselves.

And why is all this?

Because it's "Valentine's Day"...thats why.

But the sad calamity is, that even us Muslims are doing this. And its not just in the West. Those living in Muslim countries are just as involved. They too, are exchanging cards and gifts and love notes.

They too, are celebrating Valentines Day,

But what is this "Valentine's Day" after all ?

Have we ever thought about it? What is the story behind it?

What does celebrating "Valentines Day" really mean?

Where does this fit in a Muslims life?

In fact, does it even fit in it at all?

Looking at the Quraan and Sunnah, one should realize that we should not be celebrating it in the first place, because it is a celebration of the non-Muslims. Whatever we need to celebrate has been prescribed to us by Allaah and His Messenger (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa sallam) and it is prohibited to celebrate anything else.

That is why And Allaah said:

"For every nation We have ordained religious ceremonies which they must follow."
[Surah al-Hajj:67]

And the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa sallam) said: "Every nation has its own Eid (celebration) and this is our Eid (meaning Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha). ’ (al-Bukhaari, Muslim)

But, even if this Divine command was not there, it stillwould not be appropriate for a Muslim to celebrate Valentines Day.

Why is that ?

Because, if you really think about it, what this day promotes and revolves around, goes against the very basic principles of Islaam. What this day encourages, cuts at the very roots of what our religion teaches us.

Let us see what some of these differences are:

1. Allaah commands us to lower our gaze and not look at the opposite gender.

“Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and protect their private parts....And tell the believing women to lower their gaze, and protect their private parts...” Surah al-Noor :30-31)

But Valentines Day encourages people to deliberately look and stare and seek out the one that you find attractive and pick him/her as your valentine.

2. Allaah orders the Muslim women not to talk unnecessarily or in a soft manner to strange men.

“....then be not soft in speech, lest he in whose heart is a disease (of hypocrisy, or evil desire for adultery) should be moved with desire” (Surah al-Ahzaab :32)

Even for the Sahaabah, Allaah ordered them to screen themselves from the wives of the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa sallam) when they need to ask them something. Who could be purer than the wives of the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa sallam) and who could be higher in taqwa than the Sahaabah?

"And when you ask (the Prophets wives) for anything you want, ask them from behind a screen, that is purer for your hearts and for their hearts".
(Surah al-Ahzaab: 53)

Yet, for Valentines Day, you see young men and women who are absolutely not mahram for one another in any way whatsoever, going way beyond this prohibition. Not only are they talking to each other in a soft and flirtatious way, but they are right out expressing their love (in reality, lust) for each other.

3. The Sunnah prohibits a man and a woman from being alone together at any time.

The Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa sallam) said:

“Whoever believes in Allaah and the Last Day, let him not be alone with a woman who has no mahram present, for the third one present will be the Shaytaan.” (Ahmad -- saheeh by al-Albaani)

But those who celebrate Valentines Day purposely seek to be alone with each other and go out on dates with each other while Allaah says:

“And come not near to unlawful sex. Verily, it is a Faahishah (i.e. anything that transgresses its limits: a great sin, and an evil way that leads one to hell unless Allaah Forgives him)” (al-Isra’ :32)

4. Islaam prohibits a man to even touch a non-mahram woman.

The Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa sallam) said:

“If one of you were to be stabbed in the head with an iron needle, that would be better for him than his touching a woman who is not permissible for him.” (al-Tabaraani --saheeh by al-Albaani)

But Valentines Day promotes more than just touching. It promotes hugging, kissing, cuddling and much more. May Allaah protect us.

5. Islaam teaches us that real love between a man and a woman, that is acceptable and allowed by Allaah is only that between a husband and his wife.

"And of His signs is that He created for you wives from among yourselves, that you might reside with them, and has put love and mercy between you. Surely, there are signs in this for those who think".
(al-Room: 21)

But Valentines Day endorses haraam relationships between a non-mahram man and woman and encourages illicit love and un-Islaamic affiliations.

6. Islaam tells us that Hayaa (modesty) and bashfulness are a jewel to be treasured.

It is a purity and innocence that is a virtue, regardless for a man or a woman.

The Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa sallam) said:

“Hayaa (modesty) is a branch of faith.” (Bukhaari)

On the other hand, this Valentines day advocates nothing but shamelessness and immodesty. Young men and women who have no hayaa for Allaah, leave alone for each other, openly and shamelessly, ask each other to be their love or be their valentine. Subhaan Allaah!

Conclusion

We, as Muslims, should not be celebrating Valentines day, nor is it allowed for us to do so. Everything that this day revolves around and is associated with is totally against the pure and pristine teachings of Allaah and His Messenger (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa sallam).

One shouldnt even congratulate one another or commemorate this day in any way or form. Even if this celebration is between a husband and wife, it is not right to do so because it is a celebration of the non-Muslims. And of course, if it is an illicit relationship, then obviously it is haraam.

We should adhere to the limits set by Allaah, and not transgress them just because we see other people doing so.

May Allah guide us and enable us to be true Muslims who submit earnestly and sincerely to Allaah and His Orders.

"O you who believe! Fear Allaah and keep your duty to Him. And let every person look to what he has sent forth for tomorrow, and fear Allaah. Verily, Allaah is All-Aware of what you do."
(Surah al-Hashr:18)

SPREADING LOVE AND KINDNESS IN THE HOME

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: ‘When Allah wills some good towards the people of a household, He introduces kindness among them.’” (Musnad Ahmad, 6/71; Sahih Al-Jami’, 303)

According to another report: “When Allah loves the people of a household, He introduces kindness among them.” (Ibn Abi Al-Dunya and others; Sahih al-Jami’, no. 1704)

In other words, they start to be kind to one another. This is one of the means of attaining happiness in the home, for kindness is very beneficial between the spouses, and with the children, and brings results that cannot be achieved through harshness, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Allah loves kindness and rewards it in such a way that He does not reward for harshness or for anything else.” (Sahih Muslim, no. 2592)

Many men think that housework is beneath them, and some of them think that it will undermine their status and position if they help their wives with this work.

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), however, used to “sew his own clothes, mend his own shoes and do whatever other work men do in their homes.” (Musnad Ahmad, 6/121; Sahih Al-Jami’, 4927)

This was narrated by his wife Ayesha (may Allah be pleased with her), when she was asked about what the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to do in his house; her response described what she herself had seen. According to another report, she said: “He was like any other human being: he would clean his clothes, milk his ewe and serve himself.” (Musnad Ahmad, 6/256; Al-Silsilat Al-Sahihah, no. 671)

She was also asked about what the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to do in his house, and she said, “He used to serve his family, then when the time for prayer came, he would go out to pray.” (Al-Bukhari)

If we were to do likewise nowadays, we would achieve three things: We would be following the example of the Prophet (peace be upon him); we would be helping our wives; we would feel more humble, not arrogant.

Some men demand food instantly from their wives, when the pot is on the stove and the baby is screaming to be fed; they do not pick up the child or wait a little while for the food. Let these Hadith be a reminder and a lesson.

Being affectionate towards and joking with the members of the family is a praiseworthy trait. Showing affection towards one’s wife and children is one of the things that leads to creating an atmosphere of happiness and friendliness in the home.

The ways in which the Prophet (peace be upon him) showed affection towards young children are too well-known to need mentioning. He often used to show his affection towards his grandchildren – Hasan and Hussain (may Allah be pleased with them). This is probably one of the reasons why the children used to rejoice when he would come back from traveling; they would rush to welcome him, as reported in a Sahih Hadith: “Whenever he came back from a journey, the children of his household would be taken out to meet him.”

Our Lord! Accept (this service) from us: For you are the All-Hearing, the All-knowing. (Al Qur'an 2:127)

AVOID THE 70 MAJOR SINS

Thus Allah has guaranteed Paradise to those who avoid major sins. There is some difference of opinion among scholars in this regard. Some say these major sins are seven, and in support of their position they quote the Hadith: “Avoid the seven noxious things.”

However, Abdullah Bin Abbas said, “Seventy is closer to the number than seven,” and indeed that is correct. The above Hadith does not limit the major sins to those mentioned in it. Rather, it points to the type which fall into the category of major sins.

Major sins are crimes which call for a prescribed punishment (Hadd; plural, Hudood); acts for which a warning of a severe punishment in the Hereafter is given in the Qur’an or Sunnah; and also those deeds which are cursed by our Prophet (peace be upon him).

Of course, there is a gradation among them, since some are more serious than others. We see that the Prophet (peace be upon him) has included Shirk (associating someone or something with Allah) among them, and from the text of the Qur’an we know that a person who dies committing Shirk will not be forgiven and will remain in Hell forever.

Since last night my young son has been unwell. When I got back from Work this evening I decided to take him to hospital despite my exhaustion.

There were many waiting; perhaps we will be delayed by more than an hour. I took my number and sat down in the waiting room. There were many faces, young and old, but all silent. Some brothers made use of the many booklets available in the waiting room.

Some of those waiting had their eyes closed, while others were looking around. Most were bored. Once in a while the long silence was broken by a nurse calling out a number. Happiness appears on the one whose turn it is, and he gets up quickly; then silence returns.

A young man grabbed my attention. He was reading a pocket-sized Qur`an continuously; not raising his head even once. At first I did not think much about him. However, after one hour of waiting my casual glances turned into a deep reflection about his lifestyle and how he utilizes his time. One hour of life wasted! Instead of making benefit of that hour, it was just a boring wait. Then the call for prayer was made. We went to prayer in the hospital's Masjid. I tried to pray close to the man who was reading the Qur'an earlier in the waiting room.

After the prayer I walked with him. I informed him of how impressed I was of him and how he tries to benefit from his time. He told me that most of our time is wasted without any benefit. These are days that go from our lives without being conscious of them or regretting their waste.. He said that he started carrying the pocket-sized Qur`an around when a friend encouraged him to make full use of his time. He told me that in the time other people waste he gets to read much more of the Qur`an than he gets to read either at home or in the masjid. Moreover, besides the reward of reading the Qur`an, this habit saves him from boredom and stress.

He added that he has now been waiting for one and a half hours. Then he asked, when will you find one and a half hours to read the Qur`an? I reflected; How much time do we waste? How many moments of our lives pass by, and yet we do not account for how they passed by? Indeed, how many months pass by and we do not read the Qur`an? I came to respect my companion, and I discovered that I am to stand for account and that time is not in my hand; so what am I waiting for?

My thoughts were interrupted by the nurse calling out my number; I went to the doctor. But I want to achieve something now. After I left the hospital I quickly went to the bookshop and bought a pocket-sized Qur`an. I decided to be mindful of how I spend the time. Preparation for the blessed month of Ramzan

We are now almost in the month of Sha'aban and there is few days to receive RAMADAN al Mubarak. Keeping the greatness of the holy month of Ramadan, I am forwarding this message advance- for preparing ourselves to avail the opportunity to finish reading Holy Qur'an during the Month of Ramadan.

Let us work for this investment & May Almighty Allah shower His grace, mercy on us abundantly.

A Quick preparation for RAMZAAN

1. Start reading Quran daily after Salat al-Fajr.

2. Spend some time listening to recitations from the Quran.

3. Train yourself to go bed early so that you can wake up far Salat al-Fajr.

4. Keep yourself in a state of Wudu (Ablution) most of the time.

5. Evaluate yourself daily before going bed.

6. Thank Allah for good deeds, and repent to Him for your mistakes and sins.

7. Start giving Sadaqah(Charity) daily, no matter how little. Make it a habit like eating and drinking.

8. Find time to pray extras, such as Tahajjud prayers.

9. Spend more time reading Islamic books, especially the Quran, Hadith, and Fiqh.

10. Find time to help others with your wisdom, knowledge and other talents.

11. Try to write articles on Islam for Muslims as well as for non-Muslims.

12. Associate with Muslim scholars / ulama and other pious people so that you may learn from them.

13. Train yourself to do good, render free service to others to seek the pleasure of Allah.

What to avoid

1. Avoid/reduce watching TV; instead spend more time reading the Quran and other Islamic literature.

2. Avoid looking at unlawful pictures, whether magazines, department store catalogs or others.

3. Spend free time in Masajid, Islamic organizations and make that a daily habit.

4 . If you smoke, try to reduce daily usage; otherwise Ramadan will be very difficult for you to observe.

5 . If you have friends who do not practice the teaching of Islam, try to avoid socializing with them.

6 . If you travel a lot on business, try to do more local business, so you can be more closer to your family and community.

7 . If you are used to staying up till midnight, try to go to bed earlier, so that you will be able to wake up early for Salat al-Fajr and Tahajjud prayers as well.

To prepare ourselves before the month of Ramadan arrives is far better than waiting till it comes. To prepare ourselves for anything in life is a sign of wisdom and maturity. No one is assured of living one day more; tomorrow may not come. So hurry and benefit from blessings and rewards from Allah.

Remember: 'Time is not money or gold; it is life itself and is limited. You must begin to appreciate every moment of your life and always strive to make the best use of it.

A Quick Checklist

1. Make a resolve to win the maximum favor of Allah by performing extra Voluntary prayers (Nawaafil), making frequent Dua and increased remembrance.

2. Try to recite some Holy Quran after every Prayer. In fact if you read 3-4 pages after every Prayer you can easily finish the entire Quran in Ramadan!

3. Study the Tafseer (commentary) every morning.

4. Invite a person you are not very close with or your relatives to your home for Iftaar, at least once a week (Weekend). You will notice the blessings in your relationships!

5. Bring life to your family! Everyday, try to conclude the fast with your family and spend some quality time together to understand each other better.

6. Make commitment to join Islamic study circles to learn more about Islam and improve your own life.

7. Donate generously to the Masajid, Islamic organizations, and any where people are in need or oppressed. 'Because Ramadan, is a month of sharing!

8. Share month of Ramadan and its teachings of peace and patience with your neighbors.

9. Sleep little, eat little! Make sure you do not defeat the purpose of fasting by over-indulging in food and being lazy.

10. Seek the rare and oft-neglected rewards of the night better than 1000 months ( Laylatul-Qadr / Shab-e-Qadr).

11. Weep in private for the forgiveness of your sins: Ramadan is the month of forgiveness and Allah's Mercy! It's never too late.

12. Learn to control your tongue and lower your gaze. Remember the Prophet's (pbuh) warning that lying, backbiting, and a lustful gaze all violate the Ramadan fast!

13. Encourage others to enjoin and love goodness, and to abandon everything that Allah dislikes. Play the role of a Da'ee (one who invites to Allah) with zeal, passion, and sympathy.

14. Experience the joy of Tahajjud prayers late at night and devote yourself purely and fully to Allah in the Itikaf retreat during the last 10 days of Ramadan.

Israa and Miraaj

Masjid Al-Aqsa and The Dome of the Rock

Israa literally means a journey by night and Miraaj literally means an elevator, i.e., an instrument which lifts something up.

But, in Islaam, Israa refers to a miraculous night-journey made by the last Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) from Makkah to Jerusalem, and Miraaj refers to the vehicle which took the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) from Jerusalem, up and out of the universe, through the seven heavens, and into the direct presence of Allaah.

Towards the end of a calm night, one year before the Hijrah, the roof of Prophet Muhammad (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) house split open and angel Jibreel (Gabriel) descended into the Prophets (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) room. He went over to the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam), opened his shirt and cut open his chest.

He then removed his heart and washed its inside with Zam Zam water. After he had completed washing it, he then brought a gold dish filled with Eemaan (faith) and Hikmah (wisdom), emptied it into the Prophets (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) chest and then closed it all up.[1]

Jibreel then nudged the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) until he awoke. When the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) got up, Jibreel took a hold of his hand and lead him outside of his house to the gate of Kabah.

There the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) found a strange unearthly animal. It was smaller than a mule but larger than a donkey, white in color and having a wing on either of its hind legs. He was informed that its name was “Buraaq”, a name taken from the Arabic word Barq which means a flash of lightning.

Jibreel helped the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) mount it and they set off to the north. Each stride of the Buraaq took it to the horizon, and, in no time they reached Jerusalem. There the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) dismounted and tied the animal to the same ring on the door of al-Masjid al-Aqsaa used by the prophets.

The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) entered the Masjid and prayed two Rakahs. When he finished he noticed a group of other prophets also making Salaah there. He saw among them Prophet Moosaa, Prophet Eesaa and Prophet Ibraaheem.

Prophet Muhammad (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) was then told to lead them all in Salaah. When the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) finished this Salaah, someone said to him, “This is Maalik, the guardian of the Hellfire, so give him Salaams.” When he turned around to greet him, the angel gave him Salaams before he had time to do so.[2] Jibreel then brought two vessels and presented them to the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam). One was filled with wine and the other filled with milk. The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) chose the vessel filled with milk and drank from it.

Jibreel then said, “You have been guided to the Fitrah.”[3]

The Ascent (Miraaj)

The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) then left the Masjid and the Miraaj was brought for him. Jibreel helped him get into it, and it shot up into the heavens and out of the solar system. Traveling at a tremendous rate, the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) and Jibreel soon left our galaxy and raced past the other galaxies until they reached the end of the universe.

At the end of the universe, they arrived at the boundary of the lowest heaven. Jibreel then requested that its gate be opened for them. Jibreel was then asked who he was and who was with him. When he informed the guardian angel who they were, he was asked if the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) had been sent for. When he said that that was so, the guardian said, “Welcome! His coming is good,” and the gate was opened.

When they went into the lowest heaven the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) saw a man sitting with a large group of people on his right and a large group on his left. When the man looked at those on his right he laughed, and when he looked at those on his left he wept.

The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) asked Jibreel who the man was and Jibreel replied, “This is your father Aadam, so greet him,” When the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) did so, Prophet Aadam returned his Salaams and said, “Welcome! Oh good son and good Prophet.”

Jibreel then said, “These people on his right and left are the souls of his descendents. Those of them on his left are the inhabitants of Hell, so when he looks on his right side he laughs and when he looks on his left he cries.”

Jibreel then took him up to the second, heaven where he met and greeted Prophets Eesaa and Yahyaa, up to the third where he met and greeted Prophet Yousuf; up to the fourth where he met and greeted Prophet Idrees, up to the fifth where he met and greeted Prophet Haaroon, and up to the sixth where he met Prophet Moosaa.

When he went on past Prophet Moosaa, Moosaa wept, and when he was asked why he wept he replied, ‘I am crying because more followers of a young man, who was sent as a prophet after my time, will enter paradise than my followers.’

He then went on up with Jibreel to the seventh heaven, requested entrance and they came upon Prophet Ibraaheem leaning with his back against the house of worship called al-Bayt al-Ma’moor.[4]

Prophet Muhammad (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) observed approximately seventy thousand angels, entering this heavenly house of worship without seeing any of them leave.

Jibreel then led the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) to the lote-tree of the boundary, which he described as having leaves like the ears of elephants and fruits like large earthen-ware jugs. The lote-tree marked the spot, beyond which even Jibreel could not go, but Allaah permitted Prophet Muhammad (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) to go beyond it and spoke to him directly.

Allaah swt revealed to the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) the last verses of Soorah al-Baqarah and promised him that the major sins of his followers would be forgiven if they did not commit Shirk. Allaah also made Salaah compulsory fifty times per day for the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) and his followers.

On the Prophets (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) return he passed by Prophet Moosaa who asked him what worship had been prescribed for him. When the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) informed him, Moosaa said, “Your people are not capable of doing fifty daily prayers. I swear by Allaah that I have tested men before your time and tried my best with the Israelites, so go back to your Lord and ask Him to make things lighter for your people.”

The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) did so and Allaah reduced it by ten, but Moosaa suggested that he return and request a further reduction for the same reason, so he returned.

The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) continued going back and forth between his Lord and Moosaa until Allaah said, “They are five prayers everyday, Muhammad, each being rewarded as ten, so that makes fifty times of prayer. He who intends to do a good deed and does not do it will have a good deed recorded for him, and if he does it, it will be recorded for him as ten; whereas he who intends to do an evil deed and does not do it will have nothing recorded against him, and if he does it, only one evil deed will be recorded against him.”

When he came down and Moosaa told him to go back, he replied, “I have asked my Lord till I am ashamed to face Him. I am now satisfied and I submit.”[5]

The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) was then taken into Paradise and he reported that he saw in it domes of pearls and that its soil was made of musk.[6] He was also taken to Hell and Allaah showed him scenes from the future. He saw in the Hellfire people receiving terrible punishments for various sins.

The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) then took the Miraaj and descended with Jibreel to al-Masjid al-Aqsaa. From there he mounted the Buraaq and returned to his home in Makkah where he found his bed still warm.

The Return

The following morning, the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) went to the Quraysh tribal meeting place, and when Abu Jahl came up to him, he informed him of his journey.

Abu Jahl then called all the people to hear the Prophet’s (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) story, and when he related it to them, they stared at him in amazement and disbelief.

Some Muslim converts whose Eemaan was weak left Islaam and returned to Kufr, because of the incredible tale which the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) had told.Some of the people ran to Abu Bakr and told him that his companion, Muhammad (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam), claimed that he went to Jerusalem, made Salaah there, and returned to Makkah in one night. Abu Bakr told them that they were lying about the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam), because the story was too strange, but they told him that the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) was at the Kabah telling it to the people.

When they told him that, they were sure that he would also leave Islaam, because it was obvious to them that Muhammad (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) must be lying. But Abu Bakr told them “By Allaah, if he actually said that, he has told the truth. There really is nothing to be amazed about, for he has told me that information comes to him from Allaah, from the sky to the earth, in an instant during the night or day and I believe him. And that is even more strange.”

Because of that statement of Abu Bakr, the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) gave him the title of “as-Siddeeq (the truthful).”

The people then demanded from the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) proof of what he said. They knew that he had never traveled to Jerusalem, so some of them demanded that he describe it. The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) became worried, as he had forgotton most of its details. He had only been there at night and had not paid much attention to its details.

But, Allaah blessed him with a vision in which he saw Jerusalem as if he were there. So he was able to describe even its smallest details for them.[1] 1.

For the others, he told them that on his way to Jerusalem he passed by a stray camel belonging to one of the clans which had camped in a valley. It had escaped from a group of them and he led them to it. He also told them that on his return he passed by the same clans caravan and found them all sleeping. They had a drinking vessel with some water in it which they had covered, so he uncovered it, drank its contents and put the cover back on the same way it was.

He then informed them that the caravan was on its way to Makkah and he further described its lead camel. So the people rushed out to meet the caravan and found it as he had described it. They then asked the clan about the stray camel and the drinking vessel, and they replied, “By Allaah! He told the truth, we had camped in the valley which he mentioned and one of our camels had run off. We heard a mans voice calling us to it until we caught it.”

They also mentioned that they had left water in their jug and were surprised to find that it was all gone the next morning.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Uthman bin Affan (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, "The best amongst you is the one who learn the Qur'an and teach it.''

Lesson: This Hadith tells us excellence of people who learn Quran and then spend there time teaching to others. Only such people will be elevated who act upon the teachings of the Qur'an and abstain from what is forbidden by Allah. The Muslims of the early centuries of Islam were blessed with great honour by Allah because they loved and applied the Qur'an. Because of there meaningful attachment with the Qur'an, they made great achievements in religious and worldly spheres. Those who neglected the teachings of Quran & Islam will be disgraced and humiliated. May Allah guide and enable us to re-establish our contact with the Qur'an so that we can regain our past glory.

10 Ways of Honouring Servants

Assalam o Alaikum Wa Rehmatullahe Wa Barakatuhu,

Most Muslims in Eastern countries employ domestic staff as a norm. For some, domestic helpers are a priceless resource who significantly ease our day-to-day chores. Conversely, for others, they can be a source of distress and chagrin.

Many women complain to each other about the trouble they face from the incompetence, treachery, and intentional misdemeanor of their servants. However, we need to remind ourselves that it is in managing our helpers according to Islamic injunctions where the secret lies to get the best out of them.

1. Think of their pay as Sadaqah

We need to change the way we view our servants’ wages. By considering it an “expense,” we tend to extract “full value” of the money. For instance, even if a maid is sick, her employer might say, “I pay her to work, so she must work.” But if we consider the salary a “Sadaqah” that helps fill their bellies, we will Insha Allah be more tolerant of their shortcomings as human beings.

2. Counsel them when they need it

You might notice that your domestic helpers are disturbed on some days. They are human beings who have problems and worries just like us. Ask them what is troubling them; then advise them to have patience and hope in Allah’s mercy. Keep the counsel short, but show them that you care.

3. Forgive and forget their mistakes

Just like other human relationships, it is not pleasant to have your past mistakes and wrongs thrown in your face repeatedly. Forgive them for the sake of Allah if they wrong you, and do not be harsh when scolding them.

4. Do not accuse them of stealing, cheating or lying on mere suspicion

Many employers are guilty of this unfair action – as soon as something in the house is missing due to their own absentmindedness, the domestic helper is squarely accused of theft or negligence.

“O you who believe! Avoid suspicion as much (as possible): for suspicion in some cases is a sin.” (Qur’an, 49:12)

Ask them normally if they have seen the missing object, but do not accuse them of theft or misplacement. In most cases, the object is eventually found after the maid has been fired, causing guilt and embarrassment to the employer for life.

5. Informally teach them Islamic manners and knowledge

One of the rights of our domestic helpers upon us is that they be taught about Islam, or given its message if they are non-Muslims. Without being overtly ‘preachy’, give them small doses of the truth. The best way is to act upon Islam yourself. This will eventually make them love and respect you for the sake of Allah – which results in a sincere relationship devoid of mistrust and treachery.

6. Eat with them occasionally without separating utensils

Domestic helpers are not animals. Some people treat them as if they are unhygienic beings from another planet. Allow them to use the utensils from which you and your family eat. If they have dirty habits, teach them hygiene. But do not separate their utensils as if they are untouchables. This will make them feel insulted. They will never return an insult with loyalty or obedience.

Abu Bakr Bin Hafs said: “Abdullah Bin Umar would never eat food except in the company of an orphan.”

7. Give them gifts

Reward their work – whatever it is like – with occasional bonuses in the form of clothing, shoes or other items that you are yourself using. Do not cast off broken, torn or damaged goods to them unless they agree to take them. This is part of the Islamic etiquette taught by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): “None of you truly believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

8. Ease work when they are sick

Allow your helpers to go home early by reducing their chores when they are not feeling that well. Help them if they need money for medicines or medical treatment. Consideration such as this, without reminding them of these favors later, is a good way to establish a relationship based on mutual trust and care.

9. They are not robots

Domestic helpers are human beings with feelings and self-esteem. Any treatment that you would dislike for yourself would hurt them too. Scolding them in public, pointing out their faults before others, and allowing your children to mock at them or hit them or treat them disrespectfully are totally unacceptable behaviors. Treat them with honor and dignity.

10. You are not superior

“It is We Who portion out between them their livelihood in the life of this world: and We raise some of them above others in ranks, so that some may command work from others.” (Qur’an, 43:32)

It is one of Allah’s laws of the universe that some people possess higher worldly ranks than others, so that they employ the services of the latter in return for wages. But this doesn’t mean a wealthy person is superior than a poor person. This doesn’t mean you are better than your servant.

Islam has mandated lofty treatment with slaves. But we don’t show that even to servants who are mere employees, and not slaves.

Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said to Abu Dharr regarding his treatment of his slave: “They are your brothers and servants whom Allah has placed under your authority.

Anyone who has his brother under his authority let him feed him the same food as he eats and dress him in the same clothes as he wears. Do not overwhelm them with work and if you give them work to do then help them with it.” (Al Bukhari and Muslim)

Our servants are not our slaves. But is our treatment as good as what the Prophet (peace be upon him) commanded with regard to slaves during his time?

اور حضرت جندب قسری راوی ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا، جس نے صبح کی نماز پرھی وہ (دنیا و آخرت میں) اللہ تعالیٰ کے عہد و امان میں ہے لہٰذا ایسا نہ ہو کہ اللہ تعالیٰ تم سے اپنے عہد میں کچھ مواخذہ کرے کیونکہ جس سے اس نے عہد و امان میں مواخذہ کیا تو (اس کا نتیجہ یہ ہوگا کہ) کہ اسے پکڑ کر دوزخ کی آگ میں اوندھے منہ ڈال دے گا۔ (صحیح مسلم) اور مصابیح کے بعض نسخوں میں قسری کے بجائے قشیری ہے۔"

فائدہ:
مطلب یہ ہے کہ جس آدمی نے صبح کی نماز پڑھ لی وہ اللہ تعالیٰ کے عہد و امان میں ہے لہٰذا مسلمانوں کو چاہئے کہ وہ اس آدمی سے بدسلوکی کی نہ کریں، اس کو قتل نہ کریں۔ اس کا مال نہ چھینیں، اس کی غیبت نہ کریں اور اس کے بے آبروئی نہ کریں۔ اگر کسی آدمی نے اس کے ساتھ بد سلوکی یا اس کے ساتھ کوئی ایسا رویہ اختیار کیا جو اس کی جان و مال اور اس کی اابرو کے لیے نقصان دہ ہو تو اس کا مطلب ہوگا کہ اس نے اللہ تعالیٰ کے عہد و امان میں خلل ڈالا لہٰذا اللہ تعالیٰ ایسے آدمی سے سخت مواخذہ کرے گا اور جس بد نصیب سے اللہ تعالیٰ نے مواخذہ کیا اس کے لیے نجات کا کوئی ذریعہ نہ ہوگا۔
یا پھر " عہد و امان" سے مراد نماز ہے کہ صبح کی نماز پڑھنے سے اللہ تعالیٰ نے دنیا و آخرت میں امن دینے کا وعدہ کر لیا ہے، لہٰذا مسلمانوں کو چاہئے کہ وہ صبح کی نماز ہر گز قضا نہ کریں ورنہ ان کے اور پروردگار کے درمیان جو عہد ہے وہ ٹوٹ جائے گا جس پر اللہ تعالیٰ مواخذہ کرے گا اور اس کے مواخذے سے بچانے کی کوئی ہمت بھی نہیں کر سکتا۔

THE EXCELLENCE OF DUROOD SHAREEF AS EXPLAINED IN THE AHADITH

"Hadith" is an Arabic word which means "Holy Sayings". It is the narration of all the affectionate words of advice uttered by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Sall Allahu â€˜alaihi wa Salim) from time to time. These sayings (Ahadith) are instructions offered for the guidance of mankind, and to follow them is as important as daily prayers.
The famous books of Hadith are the following: Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, Muwatta, Nisaai', Ibn-Majah, Darmi, Baihaqi and Miskhaat Shareef.

Imam Bukhari (radi Allahu anhu), the compiler of Bukhari Shareef, took the greatest and painstaking precautions in making his collections of Ahadith and exerted to his utmost to achieve all accuracy and reliability as possible. Hence, Ahadith quoted by Imam Bukhari (radi Allahu anhu) and his work on Ahadith stands as one of the wonders of intellectual achievement in Islamic History. He wrote all Ahadith in the sacred Haram of Madina Munawwarah. It is, therefore, that most of the Ahadith have been taken from the book of Bukhari Shareef.

Important Ahadith of the Holy Prophet (Sall Allahu â€˜alaihi wa Salim) have been included here for the betterment, benefit guidance and gain of the readers of this book. If followed, the reader of these sayings will receive a permit to Paradise even in this world. Every saying opens door to Divine favour and sure success.

1. For every Durood Shareef that you recite, ten sins are forgiven, ten good deeds are entered into your sheet of actions and ten position are upgraded.

2. Allah showers ten blessings on the man who recites a Durood

3. The first man who will meet the Prophet (Sall Allahu â€˜alaihi wa Salim) on the Day of Judgment will be that person who had recited the Durood maximum number of times in his life time.

4. Those who recite Durood in maximum number will be nearest and dearest to the Holy Prophet (Sall Allahu â€˜alaihi wa Salim) in the next world.

5. If any one is involved in a difficulty then he must recite countless number of Durood Shareefs.

6. Reciting Durood Shareef eradicates poverty and hunger.

7. If the Sawaab of the Durood Shareef is dedicated to another person, then that person will receive the Sawaab, while the Sawaab of the reciter will not be lessened.

8. Reciting excessive Durood Shareef brings purity.

9. Reciting maximum number of Durood Shareef is full compensation of all sins.

10. Any one who recites excessive Durood Shareef in this world will be safe and sound in the next world.

11. When a prayer is made to Allah it is never accepted unless praise of Allah Ta'ala and Durood Shareef on the Holy Prophet (Sall Allahu â€˜alaihi wa Salim) is first of all recited.

12. Those who recite Durood quite often will see Divine Light on the dark Day of Judgement.

13. Three persons will be under the cool shade and the favours of Allah Ta'ala on the Doom's Day. One who kept the Holy Prophet's (Sall Allahu â€˜alaihi wa Salim) Sunnah alive, one who removed difficulty of a fellow being and one who recited maximum number of Durood Shareef in his life time.

14. When you forget anything and your memory fails to recollect it, then recite Durood, you will remember the forgotten thing.

15. Reciting Durood in this world is rewarding in the next.

16. The reciter of 10 Duroods in the morning and 10 in the evening will receive the help of the Holy Prophet (Sall Allahu â€˜alaihi wa Salim) on the Day of Judgement.

17. One who recites Durood Shareef near the shrine of the Holy Prophet (Sall Allahu â€˜alaihi wa Salim) is heard by him there and then alone.

18. Any one who recites Durood is just as one who purchased a slave and freed him.

19. If a Durood is written in a book by someone Angels of Allah shower blessings on him till the Durood remains in that book.

20. The Holy Prophet (Sall Allahu â€˜alaihi wa Salim) said that he himself recites blessings on one who recites Durood on him.

21. Any one who wants to meet his Allah with a happy face must recite countless number of Durood Shareef.

22. Reward equivalent to a big mountain (Uhud) is given to one who recites one Durood.

23. All people will be presented to the Holy Prophet (Sall Allahu â€˜alaihi wa Salim) with their habits, natures and distinct manner, so it is obligatory for a man to recite maximum number of Durood.

24. Allah is Great and Almighty to forgive all sins of the reciter during the day and night when he recites Durood Shareef.

25. If any one meets in a tragedy, he should recite Durood Shareef in countless numbers.

26. Reciting Durood is like giving something in charity.

27. Reciting maximum number of Durood kills all hardships.

28. Recite Durood Shareef in countless number on Friday, as it is presented to me (the Holy Prophet).

29. Bad deeds of 200 years (equivalent) are obliterated if a man recites 100 Durood on Friday.

30. Anyone who recites Durood will overcome all their troubles

31. If the name of the Holy Prophet (Sall Allahu â€˜alaihi wa Salim) is mentioned and one who hears it but does not recite Durood Shareef, understand that he has forgotten the path to Paradise.

32. "I pray for all those who recite Durood on me", said the Holy Prophet (Sall Allahu â€˜alaihi wa Salim).

33. If any one recites Durood Shareef from any place, any part of the world from any distance, it actually reaches the Holy Prophet (Sall Allahu â€˜alaihi wa Salim) immediately. Allah Ta'ala has appointed several Angels who are given exclusive duty to collect all Durood Shareef and present the same before the Holy Prophet (Sall Allahu â€˜alaihi wa Salim) immediately.

34. Angels of Allah shower 70 blessings on a man who recites Durood once

35. Whenever you hear the call of prayers (Azaan) you should recite Durood.

36. Wherever you are, from any quarter of the world, you must recite Durood as it reaches the Holy Prophet (Sall Allahu â€˜alaihi wa Salim).

37. Ablution is not complete if Durood is not recited on it.

38. The Holy Prophet (Sall Allahu â€˜alaihi wa Salim) said to his wife that any one who hears the name of the Holy Prophet (Sall Allahu â€˜alaihi wa Salim) and does not recite Durood on him will not see the beautiful face of Prophet (Sall Allahu â€˜alaihi wa Salim) on the Day of the Judgement.

39. Sayyiduna Ali (radi Allahu anhu) reports that Rasoolullah (Sall Allahu â€˜alaihi wa Salim) said, "The real miser is he in whose presence I am mentioned and then he fails to recite Salat on me".

40. If a person recites 1 000 Durood Shareef daily, he will never die unless he himself sees his place in Heaven with his own eyes.

41. The Durood Shareef that is recited by the person is written with a Golden Pen on a Silver tablet by the Angels. The Angels then present this Durood Shareef to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sall Allahu â€˜alaihi wa Salim) and proclaim, "O Habeeb of Allah! The son of such and such a person has presented this gift in your majestic court".

Abdullah ibne-Amr (Radiyallahu Anhuma) narrates

that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said:

Two qualities are such that if a Muslim adopts them,

he will certainly enter Paradise.

Both of them are easy but those who practice them are very few.

One is that after every Salat say

Subhanallah (Glory be to Allah Who is above all faults)

ten times, and

Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah)

ten times, and

Allahuakbar (Allah is the Greatest)

ten times.

Abdullah says:
I saw Nabi (Sallallhu Alaihi Wasallam) counting them on his fingers.

Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said:

This means one hundred and fifty on the tongue

and fifteen hundred on the scale of deeds.

(The second quality is that)

When one goes to bed he says

Subhanallah, ( thirty-three times )

Alhamdulillah ( thirty-three times )

Allahuakbar ( thirty-four times )

for a total of one hundred (100) times.

These are one hundred on the tongue and one thousand on the Scale,

so who would be committing two thousand five hundred sins in a day?

Abdullah (Radiyallahu anhu) asked:

O Rasulallah! Why is it that these two qualities are not adopted?

He (Sallallhu Alaihi Wasallam) replied:
The Shaitan comes to one while he is in Salat and says remember

so and so, remember so and so, until he becomes pre-occupied

and thus becomes unmindful of saying these words;

and Shaitan comes to him on his bed and continuously lulls him to sleep.
